C4: O "Making of..." Do Randy Martinez

Hello Friends,
Things are really busy around here. Lots of Star Wars art!!!! For those not aware Star Wars turns 30 this year!!! Yes, I feel old too!:)
To commemorate the anniversary Lucasfilm is throwing the biggest Star Wars party the world has ever seen. It's called Star Wars Celebration IV, and it will be held in the ENTIRE Los Angeles Convention Center (that's how big this thing is!).
I will be there of course but this Celebration is very special for me because I was given the honor of illustrating the cover of the official collectible program book! I am so excited and proud of this I am busting!!!!!! I've attached an image of how it will look on the final print.
The original art is 100% acrylic paint on a 30 X40 100% Cotton Duck stretched canvas. This sucker took me two months to paint, and I think the extra time was well spent. I really wanted to capture three important factors in this painting.
1. First I wanted to capture the excitement of these great movies, while celebrating the original film from 1977. The ships represent this, as it is the first scene we saw back in 1977 that grabbed us and kept us coming back for more!
2. I wanted to do more than just paint a picture of Darth Vader I wanted to paint his story. The whole Star Wars saga is really about the Skywalker family. And this led to the next thing I wanted to capture...
3. My own experience with Star Wars. This painting has so much of me in it. There is a lot of emotional things going on here that deal with the changes in my life lately, and the journey I took looking back on my life, and it's odd parallels to the Star Wars story. For me, it holds a lot of who I am and what I feel. Ok, I'll stop getting all arty on you :)
Also, I have made a web page that shows the process of this new piece. Its kind of funny too!
