Entrevistas SWCP: Zach Hanks

SWCP: Participou também no jogo SW:The Old Republic (2011).Que personagens interpretou?

Z.H: Em Star Wars: The Old Republic, interpretei o Capitão Marshall, Carteri, Caspar Knowles, Gen Vizsca, Jomar Chul, Nikollan Kord, Nivi-sec, a Republic Captain, Sedni Maruk, e o Sargento Rossiker.

English Version:

The American voice actor/director Zach Hanks has been the voice of several characters in video games and animated series. He was the voice of Garnac, the leader of Trandoshan hunters in Star Wars: Clone Wars (CGI).

SWCP: Tell us about your role on the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars.

Z.H: I played the role of "Garnac," the Trandoshan Chief in the "Star Wars: Clone Wars" episodes: "Padawan Lost" and "Wookie Hunt." He's the leader of a hunting party, pursuing dangerous game on a planet that serves as a game preserve. He's the father of "Dar," who dies over the course of the story, and Garnac swears to avenge him. He is cunning and deadly.

SWCP: How did you prepare for the role of Garnac?

Z.H: I chose a rough, raspy, heavily textured vocal quality for him, and used a general American accent. I had a few bestial snarls, growls, and clicks in my repertoire, so I used those in the audition. The click is my favorite - it's an unvoiced uvular trill - a "death rattle," and is basically the sound of the alien from the Predator film franchise (fittingly, also an interplanetary hunter of dangerous game). I think my background doing voices for interactive games, which tend to be quite violent, prepared me well for the role.

SWCP: You also participated in the videogame Star Wars: The Old Republic. Which characters did you play?

Z.H: In Star Wars: The Old Republic, I voiced Captain Marshall, Carteri, Caspar Knowles, Gen Vizsca, Jomar Chul, Nikollan Kord, Nivi-sec, a Republic Captain, Sedni Maruk, and Sergeant Rossiker.

SWCP: What was the most difficult thing when you are working on voice´s characters?

Z.H: The most difficult thing is always booking the role; the competition is fierce. At this stage in my work as an actor, the main thing I still find difficult is recovering quickly from vocal strain, usually from raspy, heavily textured creature voices like Garnac's, and from screaming, which Garnac did fairly regularly. I don't recover as quickly as I used to, so I prefer to do this kind of work later in the week, giving me the weekend to heal.

SWCP: Are you going to work again in the next season (VI) of Clone Wars?

Z.H: That's not up to me, unfortunately. I'm teaching acting and voice in the School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas full-time, and I don't often receive auditions for animated series these days. I'd love to work on the series again, but it's up to the folks at Lucas Film.

SWCP: Would you like to leave a message for the fans of this series?

Z.H: As always, thanks so much for your support. It is a pleasure and an honor to have contributed to Star Wars lore and the current generation's pop-cultural mythology.
