Entrevistas SWCP: Kevin Mangold

Kevin Mangold tem participado em vários filmes, séries e comerciais como duplo e ator: O Mentalista,Congo,Primevals,Sea Biscuit,entre outros.

SWCP: Foi o “Homem-Tubo” no filme `The Devil´s Tomb´.Como foi essa experiência?

K.M: O Túmulo do Diabo foi um desafio porque tive de manter a minha respiração debaixo de água, durante toda a filmagem dessa cena, até a escotilha ser fechada. Se você tiver alguma claustrofobia ou medo ficar preso debaixo de água, então não é o emprego certo para si. A melhor parte de toda a rodagem, foi ter convivido com o com Henry Rollins.

SWCP: Encarnou alguns personagens nos parques temáticos da Disney, como o Mickey e o Peter Pan.Que feedback teve na pele desses personagens com os visitantes desses parques?

K.M: Ser um personagem da Disney foi muito divertido. Eu era pago atuar todo o dia, realmente. Tive muito mais divertimento com personagens sem máscara, como o Peter Pan porque assim podia falar com os visitantes. Há poucos personagens desse tipo que não têm cabeças gigantescas e luvas brancas. Realmente gosto de encarnar os personagens, e os trajes que cobrem a minha cara permitem que eu me imerja completamente no papel. Dos personagens da BD como o Mickey Mouse e o Smurf Inteligente aos dos filmes como o Leprechaun, os personagens com trajes são o meu tipo favorito de papel. 

SWCP: A sua baixa estatura tem lhe permitido ser o duplo de crianças e também interpretar papéis como Jockey, provando assim que não é preciso ser o estereótipo do duplo alto e musculado para se ser um bom duplo. Concorda?

K.M: A maior parte das pessoas pensam no Cowboy durão quando ouvem a palavra 'duplo' mas há todo tipo de atores na televisão e todos eles precisam que haja atores duplos. Há homens e mulheres, grandes e pequenos quem fazem uma vida como duplos. Tenho a noção que a minha pequena estatura sempre me ajudou a realizar o que eu sempre quis fazer e o trabalho de duplo não é nenhuma exceção.Claro,que se poder escolher não jogar basquetebol, melhor, pois obviamente que não resultaria tão bem.

SWCP: Escreveu também um livro e três argumentos. É uma faceta para se dedicar mais quando se retirar da profissão de duplo?

K.M: Realmente não estou a ver-me a dedicar todo do meu tempo a somente uma coisa. Distraio-me facilmente. Atualmente, estou a escrever argumentos e a produzir o filme `Gangster´ (http://mobsterthemovie.com/ ) enquanto continuo a fazer audições de atuação e trabalhos usando trajes de criaturas. Sim, é verdade que um dia, serei demasiado velho para fazer de duplo, mas pensarei nisso quando esse dia chegar.

SWCP: Já participou em várias corridas de cavalos como Jockey. Qual foi a melhor classificação que obteve?

K.M: Corri durante aproximadamente oito anos com um ano a filmar ' Seabiscuit '. Naquele tempo, ganhei 52 corridas. Isto não é um grande registro em comparação com muitos outros jóqueis, mas para mim, foi uma felicidade ter corrido entre os melhores jockeys do mundo. Acontece que sou muito melhor na atuação do que nas corridas, mas não me arrependo da época em que corri.

SWCP: Quer enviar alguma mensagem aos seus fãs?

Kevin Mangold has been participating in several films, series and commercials as a stuntman and actor: The Mentalist, Congo, Primevals, Sea Biscuit, among others.

SWCP: You were the "Tube Man “in the movie `The Devil´s Tomb’. How it was this experience?

K.M: The Devil's Tomb was a challenge because I had to hold my breath under the water, during the whole shot, while the hatch was closed. If you have any claustrophobia or fear of being trapped under water, this is not the job for you. The best part of the whole shoot was getting to hang out with Henry Rollins.

SWCP: You embodying a few characters at Disneyland Theme Park such as Mickey and Peter Pan. What feedback did you have in the skin of these characters with the visitors of this park? 

K.M: Being a Disney character was a lot of fun. I was getting paid to play all day, really. I had a lot more fun in the "face characters" like Peter Pan because I could talk to the guests. Face characters are the few who don't have giant heads and white gloves covering themselves. I really enjoy getting into character, though, and the suits that cover my face allow me to completely immerse myself in the role. From comic characters like Mickey Mouse and Brainy Smurf to film creatures like the Leprechaun in Red Clover, suit characters are my favorite type of role.

SWCP: Your low stature has been allowed you to be the children´s double and jockey, proving that is not necessary to be the stereotype of the muscle and tall man to be a good stuntman. Do you agree?

K.M: Most people think of the tough cowboy when they hear the word "stuntman" but there are all types of actors on television and they all need stunt doubles. There are men and women, big and small who make a living doing stunts. I find that my small stature has always helped me in achieving what I've wanted to do and stunts are no exception. Of course, if I had chose n to play basketball, it might not have worked out so well.

SWCP: You wrote also a book and three screenplays. Is it an option to be dedicated in full time when you´ll retire of stuntman profession?

K.M: I can't really see myself dedicating all of my time to just one thing. I get distracted easily. Currently, I'm writing scripts, producing the feature film, Mobster (http://Mobsterthemovie.com ), while continuing to audition for acting and creature suit work. Yes, it's true that one day, I will be too old to flip and do stunts, but I will think about that day when it arrives.

SWCP: You participated in several horses races. What was your best score?

K.M: I raced for about eight years with a year off to film "Sea biscuit". In that time, I won 52 races. That's not a great record compared to many other jockeys, but for me, I was happy to be racing among the best riders in the world. It turns out that I am much better at acting than racing, but I don't regret the time that I raced at all.
